A 19-year-old man is facing felony charges for supplying 17-year-old Kyle Rittenhouse with the rifle he used to allegedly kill two protesters in Kenosha, Wisconsin following the police shooting of Jacob Blake.
According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Dominick Black is facing two felony counts of intentionally giving a dangerous weapon to a minor resulting in death. On Aug. 25, Rittenhouse allegedly used that rifle to fatally shoot Anthony Huber and Joseph Rosenbaum, and seriously injure a third man, Gaige Grosskreutz.
Black told investigators that he bought the gun for Rittenhouse earlier this year because he was too young to buy it himself.
Over the summer, the two visited a gun store in Wisconsin. Black signed the paperwork as if the gun was for himself, although Rittenhouse gave him the money for it. According to Black’s stepfather, the gun was initially locked away in their garage, but after the violence erupted in Kenosha following the Blake shooting, he moved it inside the home.
Authorities are accusing Black of driving the teen back to his home in Illinois after the shootings, while the rifle was in the trunk of his car. Black confessed that he was also armed at the same car dealership where Rittenhouse allegedly shot and killed Rosenbaum.
According to police records, Black knew that his actions were illegal. “In all reality, you are not supposed to have that gun,” he allegedly recalled telling Rittenhouse after the deadly night. “That gun was in my name.” He also told police that the teen “would have thrown a fit” if he tried to stop him.
A judge set bail at $2,500 for Black and he will be due back in court on Nov. 19. He cannot have any contact with Rittenhouse or Grosskreutz. If convicted, he faces up to 25 years in prison.
