Lupe Fiasco sets out to record 10-track album in 24 hours

As of this story, Lupe is three songs in.

It’s been three years since Lupe Fiasco dropped his last full length project, but another may album just be on the way. In the wee hours of Monday morning (Aug. 9), the “Battle Scars” emcee took to Twitter to reveal that he’d just started the process of recording a 10-song “album from scratch.” This time around, however, he’s aiming to complete the project in one day.

“Finna do an album from scratch in 24 hours,” he penned in a tweet. “1 song in…9 to go.”

The rapper began to live tweet the process, keeping fans updated every time he finished a record.

As of 8:32 am ET, he had three songs down. Since then, however, no further tweets marking his progress have been posted. He still has seven songs to record and a few more hours to go.

Though it’s been some time since Lupe dropped his 2018 project Drogas Wave, the emcee’s pen game is far from rusty. In September, he told a fan that he was a better lyricist than Kendrick Lamar, who he deems “the better artist.”

More recently, especially within the last few weeks, the “Food & Liquor” star dropped a slew of freestyles, some of which he’s rapped over classic beats like Jadakiss and Styles P’s “We Gonna Make It,” Jay Electronica’s “Exhibit C,” “I Really Mean It” by Dipset and “Sing About Me” by Kendrick Lamar. In “Steve Jobs (SLR 3 1/2),” one of his recent releases, Lupe responded to a diss track from Royce Da 5’” titled “Silence Of The Lambda.”

It’s also worth mentioning that putting together an album from scratch is not necessarily a new concept to Lupe. Amid the announcement of his new album, the rapper tweeted, “Last time I did this, Stack was alive.”
