Lil Baby is looking at the bigger picture following his arrest in Paris, France last month. Recently, the Quality Control artist sat down with Billboard to answer a few questions as their latest cover star. In the exclusive interview, he shared his newfound perspective on life, specifically in regards to his career and his legacy.
When discussing his current intentions as an artist, Lil Baby opened up about his recent arrest. At the time, REVOLT previously reported, he was in Paris alongside James Harden when two plainclothes officers approached them for the “strong smell of cannabis” that allegedly permeated from their car.
Reports say the two artists initially refused to let the cops search the vehicle due to confusion caused by the language barrier. Moments later, they gave access to the officers, who discovered 32 grams of marijuana. Harden was only frisked, but Lil Baby was taken into custody on suspicion of transporting drugs.
Fortunately, the “Man of My Word” emcee was released and issued a fine for the cannabis possession. The experience, however, made him realize he’s not as big of an artist as he believes he should be.
“The whole Paris experience let me know I got to get bigger overseas,” he said. “Not saying to not go to jail for breaking the law, but for the police to know who I am.”
In an attempt to become an international superstar, the rapper is switching from his normal process of freestyling on records to writing down the bars that will be heard on his third studio album.
The blood, sweat and tears he pours into his craft, he explained, is all for his sons Jason and Loyal as well as any of his future children.
“Everything I’m doing is really for my kids,” explained Lil Baby. “I want more kids than I got because once you get older, you start to look at life differently…I need more children to continue the legacy.”
