Since its inception, Verzuz has become a cultural phenomenon that continues to garner hundreds and thousands of viewers, even as the world returns to normalcy. A slew of music’s greats have performed on the platform, and there are many others who have expressed interest in competing on the Verzuz stage. Ice Cube, on the other hand, is on the fence about the idea.

During an appearance on “The Breakfast Club,” the Crenshaw native was asked whether he would be interested in doing a Verzuz, and he frankly responded, “Not really. It’s a great idea, great concept, but it’s nothing that’s like on my bucket list or wish list or nothing like that.”

“It started off on an adversary tip, and then it showed a lot of love in Verzuz, so I like how it’s evolved because guys shouldn’t be really going up there putting catalog against catalog,” he continued. “That right there to me ain’t what it’s about.” Cube then explained that he would have structured Verzuz in a way that would have ensured that all artists are “showing love” to each other.

“My version of Verzuz would have been, I pull somebody out there like Chuck D or Public Enemy or something, and I play all the songs I love from him, and he play all the songs he love from me,” he said. “It’s a lovefest, but it’s not something that I’m thinking about doing. If it comes about, who knows? I ain’t sayin’ yeah, I ain’t sayin’ no.”

Cube’s reluctance to participate in a Verzuz is understood considering how much he has on his plate. Elsewhere in the interview, he said that he is working on visuals for his Mt. Westmore project with Snoop Dogg, E-40 and Too $hort, and revealed that some “interesting things” will be announced regarding his Contract With Black America.
