Kanye West is taking Walmart to court.

According to a report TMZ posted today (June 24), Yeezy has filed a lawsuit against the brand for allegedly selling knockoff Yeezy Foam Runners. He says the shoes—labeled as Daeful Mens Womens Kids Summer Beach Shoes Foam Runner Anti Slipper Sandals Casual Beige on the Walmart site—copied the design for the Foam Runners, leaving would-be Foam Runner customers confused.

Kanye reportedly thinks the shoes could cost Yeezy hundreds of millions of dollars in sales. These shoes are being sold for $25, while Yeezy Foam Runners had a retail price of $75 when they dropped last year.

For their part, Walmart says the shoes technically aren’t sold by Walmart. A spokesperson for the company says: ”The product referenced in the complaint is not sold by Walmart, but rather by third party Marketplace sellers. We take allegations like this seriously and are reviewing the claim. We will respond in court as appropriate after we have been served with the complaint.”

Yeezys have been one of the most popular shoes in the game ever since Kanye first introduced them with Nike over a decade ago. Since business disagreements led Kanye to leave Nike for Adidas in 2013, Kanye’s leveled up through his own shoes in a way that no one besides Michael Jordan has. In 2020, Yeezys helped Kanye become a billionaire. So with that in mind, it’s not difficult to see why he’d be so protective of the brand.

This news arrives as Kanye makes preparations to push his Yeezy brand further than ever before. On June 8, his birthday, ’Ye released a blue dropped sleeve jacket that marked the first drop from his Yeezy Gap line. It sold out in just a few hours.

Kanye’s deal with Gap is one he announced through social media last year, and for it, it’s supposed to be a 10-year partnership. Needless to say, it should be a fruitful one.
