Since the inception of the Verzuz series, fans have been calling for Missy to participate in a battle. Busta Rhymes’ name floated around in social media conversations as some users thought his visuals and creativity could go against Missy’s work. Others shared their beliefs that Pharrell was a better match since he and the “Lose Control” emcee are both from producers from Virginia. After D’angelo’s unique iteration of Verzuz in which he performed a slew of his own hits with “friends,” however, many believe Missy deserves the same setup.

On Wednesday (June 16), amid the Trina and Eve Verzuz, a fan suggested that Timbaland and Swizz Beatz allow the “Work It” rapper to perform on their platform alone.

“If they want to put @MissyElliott on a stage and just run all her hits and I’m with it,” the user wrote. Humbled by the post, the producer took the opportunity to show love to all the Verzuz participants who played her songs during their battles.

“I want to say this I am HUMBLY GRATEFUL because I’ve been on a lot of artist verzuz & I want to thank those AMAZING artist who believed in me as a Writer/Producer or just a artist,” she wrote. “I love yall 4 the love yall shown me.”

So far, Missy’s music has been played during the following Verzuz competitions: Tim and Swizz, Ludacris against Nelly, Brandy versus Monica, and most recently, Trina and Eve. Her contributions to music have not gone unrecognized. In fact, just last month, her supporters gave her flowers on Twitter as she looked back on her innovative music videos.

“When I think of how many people thought I was crazy back then, I look at my videos & songs now & see how they CHANGED THE GAME & allowed ppl to be different now,” she tweeted at the time. “If I had of listened to the naysayers, boy oh boy no1 would of ever seen these MASTERPIECES.”

Fans immediately flooded her comments with praise. “I love most female rappers, but when I tell you that Missy Elliott has my heart, I mean that shit,” read one of the many tweets showing love to Missy. “She can rap, sing and produce. Not to mention, her music videos were different and out of the box. They are timeless and so is she.”
