The release date for Exodus, the album DMX was promoting before his untimely death, has been set. On Monday (May 10), a new post shared on the late emcee’s Instagram account revealed the album will be coming out later this month. Alongside a photo of DMX’s “Exodus 1:7” tattoo read the caption, “5/28 The Legacy continues....#ExodusAlbum.”

As REVOLT previously reported, the forthcoming X project was recorded in Snoop Dogg’s studio in the days after the Verzuz battle that saw the Yonkers native receive his flowers. According to Swizz Beatz, he was in good spirits after the competition and was eager to channel his energy into a new project.

“X was really in a good mood after doing Verzuz,” he recently told Angie Martinez. “He really got excited because he was able to see the love that the youth had for him and the energy that Snoop gave him...We didn’t leave L.A. We stayed there and finished the album at Snoop’s studio like from Verzuz. That energy bottled, bottled up and we just stayed on it. X was just saying that ‘I just wanna get some new music out so I can contribute to this new energy that I’m feeling.’”

Snoop set the vibe for X and Swizz, cooked for them and made them feel at home during the recording process of the album. The Verzuz cofounder also revealed his late friend was working to get fit and lose some weight before he dropped the project. “He was going to get back in the best shape that we’ve ever seen him in a long time physically as well,” he said. Unfortunately, however, X passed away before accomplishing his goal.

Exodus, DMX’s posthumous album, will feature the likes of Pop Smoke, Bono, Lil Wayne and Griselda. His 8-year-old daughter Sonovah Hillman Jr. is slated to make an appearance on two songs. According to Swizz, the project is a “well deserved masterpiece.”
