In the wake of DMX’s death, fans are celebrating the rapper’s life and legacy by revisiting his visuals, songs and interviews, and sharing them on social media. In one of the videos, a clip from his appearance on “Drink Champs,” he makes an eerie reference to death, one that may probably provide some solace to those wondering how X might have felt about his untimely passing.

“I could drop dead right now,” he begins in the clip. Those in the room quickly interrupted him with roars of shock, to which he pleads to continue, “Listen to what I’m saying.” When the room calms down, X rephrases his statement.

“If I was to drop dead right now, my last thought would be: ‘I’ve lived a good life.’”

DMX fought a years-long battle with mental illness and substance abuse, one he was always open to discussing. Amid the struggle, however, he obtained a level of success based on his level of vulnerability, outgoing personality and undeniable skills as a rapper and overall entertainer.

Over the course of his career, X released eight studio albums. His first five — It’s Dark and Hell is Hot, Flesh of my Flesh, Blood of my Blood, And Then There Was X, The Great Depression, and Grand Champs — were all No. 1 records, making him the first and only rapper to achieve that feat. His songs made Billboard charts, featured in movies and television shows, and were sung verbatim by fans who attended his many sold-out shows. To date, he has sold more than 74 million records.

DMX also flexed his acting chops in movies like Belly and Romeo Must Die. In recent years, his faith and Bible study sessions were the talk of the town.

Though he spent some years away from the limelight, he was recently reminded of the love and support during his Verzuz with Snoop Dogg.

DMX passed away on Friday (April 9) after a drug overdose-turned-heart attack landed him in the hospital last week. The REVOLT team continues to send our prayers and condolences to his loved ones.
