Travis Scott graces the cover of anOther magazine’s autumn/winter ‘21 issue robed in the clothes he designed for his upcoming Dior collaboration.
The international high fashion and culture publication paired Scott with the men’s artistic director at Dior, Kim Jones, for the cover story. Within the interview, Scott and Jones discuss their collaborative capsule collection and what it was like working with each other. It was initially Jones’ idea to seek out the Astroworld rapper, who has become the King Meidas of fashion, music, food and beverage collaborations.
“I have always collaborated with artists. This time I said to myself, why not a musician?” Jones explained in the cover story. “Creating is a collective effort and, let’s be honest, a creative director is surrounded by a whole team of creatives. You can’t accomplish your ambitions for a house like this if you’re doing it alone. It’s not about talent or celebrity, but if someone produces something I find cool, I want to interact with him.”
Jones met Scott six years ago, when he was working as the head of menswear at Louis Vuitton. The two crossed paths then when Scott modeled the Louis Vuitton Air Jordan collaboration at the house’s menswear show in Miami in December 2019. But Jones wanted to work with Scott on a complete collection, and the feeling was mutual for La Flame. The result is the spring/summer 2022 Cactus Jack Dior — the first Dior collection created with a musician or a record label.
“This is the first time that a luxury house is collaborating with a musician and involving him in all the creation process,” Jones said. “Travis knew exactly what he wanted. He understands what young people want, knows how to appeal to them. He also knows what the brand is about. We wanted it to be Dior with Travis’s element on top.”
Scott admits that Jones’ involvement is what intrigued him about the opportunity. “Kim is a friend of mine. I probably wouldn’t be doing this if he wasn’t involved,” Scott said. “He is such an inspiration. I was a fan even when I was in college, so it’s crazy to be working with him. Going to the atelier and watching things being sewn and made by hand, it was insane.”
The summer delivery boasts silk and wool satin blazers with Cactus Jack embroidery by Dior, a Cactus Jack cashmere sleeveless jumper, wool coats with satin lapels and soutache embroidery, cotton jersey boat neck tees with Cactus Jack print, a gold-finish brass brooch, white crystal Cactus Jack belts, flares silk and wool trousers, and more items inspired by Scott’s Texas roots and Christian Dior’s first visit to America.
