Fans were excited at the prospect of a new J. Cole album after EarthGang’s Olu said the Dreamville boss’ next project was on the way. However, Cole’s manager Ibrahim Hamad dashed away those hopes in a tweet on Wednesday (July 15).

“Just to clarify, There is no Cole album coming out soon and There is no Cole interview coming up,” the Dreamville Records president and co-founder wrote. “Y’all be taking these IG live jokes people make too far lol. Usually I would of let y’all rock with the rumors but people really been hitting my phone too much about this.”

During a recent Instagram Live session hosted through Dreamville’s account, Olu said Cole’s next album was delayed due to the Coronavirus.

“Cole album is coming. It’s in Customs right now,” he said, seemingly referring to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency. “Whole album gotta get through Customs right now ‘cause, you know, Corona.”

Olu also offered an update on the upcoming album from Spillage Village — a collective comprised of EarthGang, JID, 6LACK, Mereba, Deante’ Hitchcock and more.

“The Spillage Village album coming soon; I think it’s coming at the end of July,” he told fans. “So, maybe like two weeks — Spillage Village album. Hope you guys are ready.”

Cole hasn’t released a studio album since 2018’s KOD. The project debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and has since been certified platinum by the RIAA. Last year, he and his Dreamville team released Revenge of the Dreamers III, which was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 2020 Grammy Awards.

The North Carolina-bred star first mentioned an upcoming album at the 2019 Day N Vegas festival. During his set, Cole reportedly revealed the title of his album — The Fall Off — and showed a promotional video that resembled a political campaign ad.
