Rihanna’s anticipated biopic is “coming soon” to Amazon, according to entertainment production company Film 45. The Peter Berg-directed project was first announced last December. RiRi reportedly closed a $25 million stream deal with Amazon, which will exclusively house her forthcoming documentary.
Film 45’s website has now revealed the title of the biopic — Rihanna: Volume One — as well as a brief description and update.
“Peter Berg’s bold and innovative Rihanna is an unfiltered look into Rihanna’s life, providing a glimpse into the evolution of one of the world’s most well-known pop artists,” the film’s synopsis reads. “With unparalleled access into the singer’s life and over 1200 hours of footage, the doc takes us on a journey through private insights into Rihanna’s personality and humor, philosophies on work, family and love that are both moving and inspirational.”
Berg filmed the biopic over a two-year span, while he and Rihanna traveled throughout Europe.
“We’ve got about a thousand hours of footage. That was a fun change of pace,” Berg told The Hollywood Reporter of the film back in 2017. “After Lone Survivor and Deepwater and Patriots Day, where all these men run around with guns, to go travel with Rihanna around Europe, and Rihanna is surrounded by girls.”
“We were in Nice [France]. She was going to do a concert on Bastille Day. She was going to do a concert on Bastille Day,” he continued. “And that truck driver who killed all those people plowed through them right in front of our hotel. So even in me trying to do something light, I had a very, very front-row seat to something that horrific.”
While there’s still no official air date, Film 45 notes that the movie will be available on Amazon “soon.”
This isn’t the first time Rihanna has teamed up with the streaming service. Back in September, her Savage x Fenty runway show was aired exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. The highly praised fashion show featured appearances and performances from 21 Savage, Normani, Migos, DJ Khaled, Big Sean and A$AP Ferg.
