Rappers’ discographies have been a heavily debated topic as of late, thanks to the epic Instagram Live Verzuz battles, which have created opponents like T-Pain vs. Lil Jon, Teddy Riley vs. Babyface — and even the hypothetical Bow Wow vs. Romeo.
On Tuesday (April 21), French Montana sparked another Twitter debate when he named Kendrick Lamar as his worthy opponent and claimed to have more hits than the DAMN rapper.
“IF WE JUST TALKING ABOUT ANTHEMS, ME VS KENDRICK HIT FOR HIT!” he wrote. “I BELIEVE I CAN GO NECK TO NECK!! I BEEN MAKING HITS FOR A LONG TIME! IT AINT MY FAULT I BELIEVE IN MYSELF. HOW WAS I SUPPOSED TO ANSWER THAT QUESTION ? HOW MANY TIMES I GOTTA PROVE MYSELF BEFORE I GET MINE.”
“I love kendrick!” the Montana rapper continued in a second tweet. “That’s not just for kendrick that’s to anybody they put in front of me, and ask me that same question what u want me to say lol ? It should be your attitude too. If u think any less of yourself don’t blame it on the next person who don’t ! set it up.”

Furthering his argument, Montana replied to a Twitter user who suggested Kendrick’s “main focus isn’t making hits.”
“My point exactly ! He is a different artist,” Montana explained. “I was just sayin I’ll win that part he is gonna win everything else but give me mines lol.”
Continuing on Instagram, Montana reminded fans of his lengthy discography.
“Since this is A Amnesia game lol HERES MY FIRST 20 JOINTS BEFORE I DIG THROUGH THE OTHER 21 mixtapes FOR 20 more French vs ........... lol?” he wrote, listing songs like 2014’s “Pop That,” “Ain’t Worried About Nothin,’” “All The Way Up” feating Remy Ma and Fat Joe, 2018’s “No Stylist” and more.
Kendrick — who hasn’t responded to Montana’s claim — most recently appeared on the Creed II soundtrack cut “The Mantra,” alongside Mike WiLL Made-It and Pharrell Williams. His DAMN album arrived in 2017 and won Best Rap Album at the 2018 Grammys. Montana dropped off his self-titled LP last year and most recently shared his new “That’s A Fact” single.

He didn’t say anything inaccurate. French has more hits, doesn’t mean his body of work is better. But his discography is way bigger than Kendricks.— JacksonEVERLA$TING (@Jack_Pickett33) April 22, 2020
French does have more hits I agree but he can’t sell half as many tickets as Kendrick— Moe Tamimi • محمد تميمي (@Moe_Tamimi) April 22, 2020

You and Kendrick are Goats in your own unique ways
Every song on DAMN is certified Gold or above... every single song. 1st hip-hop album to ever do that. He plays festivals for fun— Hip Hop By The Numbers (@HipHopNumbers) April 22, 2020
You've got a solid catalogue but this isnt it
You embarrassing yourself. It isn’t about matching lyrics or verses.— Eben Rave (@iam_Eben) April 22, 2020
We talking HITSS.
French would smoke Kendrick off that
