Travis Scott is honoring the legacy of the late Pop Smoke by giving fans a preview of an unreleased song that the two have together.
Just a few hours after Pop was murdered in his Hollywood Hills home, Scott took to Instagram to share the snippet of the song. In the snippet, you can hear Pop say “Dior” repeatedly at the end.
The two previously worked together on “Gatti,” a track from Scott’s album Jackboys. The song became Pop’s first career Hot 100 entry, according to Billboard.
In a Rolling Stone interview, The “Welcome to the Party” rapper talked about how he was starstruck when he first met Scott.
“The first time I ever met Travis was at his fucking [Astroworld] Festival. He invited me to his festival in Houston, that was crazy too,” he recalled. “He gave me a whole bottle, mad merch…. Real one, for sure.”
When Scott first heard the news, he took to Instagram to share his shock and disbelief. “Fuck bro fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck,” he wrote on his Instagram story. Scott also shared a photo of the two together while on the set for the “Gatti” video.
While Pop’s murder is still under investigation, authorities believe he was targeted.
According to surveillance footage, four suspects wearing masks approaching Pop’s home. Three of the four men, which authorities have described as wearing hoodies and masks, reportedly returned to the home’s front door. The fourth suspect does not appear again on video until he’s seen exiting from the front door, which suggests he broke into the home from a back entrance.
Multiple shots were fired inside the home, but only Pop was hit. The suspects were not seen carrying any items out of the house, which refutes initial reports that this was a robbery.
Republic Records, the label home of Pop, released a statement after the news of his death.
“We are devastated by the unexpected and tragic loss of Pop Smoke,” they wrote on Wednesday (Feb. 19). “Our prayers and thoughts go out to his family, friends and fans, as we mourn this loss together.”
