Cardi B pledged to match fans’ donations to charities after some criticized her for tweeting about buying an $88,000 purse. The “Money” rapper posed the potential purchase to her Twitter followers on Sunday evening (Dec. 6).

“Should I spend 88K for this damn purse? Omggg it’s tempting,” she wrote.

Some social media users said the tweet was insensitive, especially as the pandemic has cost the employment and financial security of thousands of Americans. Cardi defended her tweet and reminded fans of the over $2 million she’s donated to different organizations this year, including $1 million in Coronavirus relief and $20,000 meals to New York City hostpial workers.

After going back and forth with fans, Cardi decided to put her money where her mouth is and start a donations challenge. On Twitter, the Bronx native asked fans what organizations they’ve recently donated to and said she’d match their offerings.

“Okay let’s do this challenge! Since ya want to tell me to donate soo much... Drop receipts on what YOU have donated too,” she wrote. “I will match it and donate to a[n] organization you have donate as well. LETS START NOW!”

“Any charity or foundation drop your receipts under the comment I will match what you donated and match your donation to that same charity or foundation,” she added. “Lets match energy.”

So far, the Grammy Award winner matched donations to a holiday charity drive in honor of Naya Rivera, college scholarship fund and a Texas-based youth outreach center.

Last month, Cardi also faced online criticism from fans after spending Thanksgiving with a large group of her family despite COVID-19 guidelines. On Twitter, the rapper apologized and assured followers that she took the necessary precautions.

“Sorry. My bad. Wasn’t trying to make nobody feel bad,” she wrote. “I just had my family in my home for the first time and it felt so good & uplifted me. I spent soo much money getting every1 tested, but it felt worth it. I wasn’t trying to offend no 1.”
