Jeremih remains in a Chicago intensive care unit as he battles COVID-19. However, his family announced that “progress is being made” in a hopeful new update about his health.

“The family believes daily prayers to God. A great team of doctors and nurses is helping him pull through,” the statement, issued to CNN, read. “He’s not out of the woods yet, but progress is being made. The family and friends are praying that he starts breathing on his own soon, and makes a full recovery.”

According to Jeremih’s family, the singer had been on a ventilator to help him breathe as of Thursday morning (Nov. 18). However, later in the day, Willie Taylor confirmed that Jeremih was now able to breathe on his own.

“... [Jeremih] is showing progress, breathing on his own and has been given a lower dosage on his medication,” the Day26 singer wrote on Instagram. “God is Amazing. Keep those prayers going up. God is Showing Up and Showing out!!”

In their statement, Jeremih’s family also urged others to take the Coronavirus seriously.

“His family would like to remind the world that COVID-19 is real and not to be taken lightly. Also, it’s important for people infected to quarantine and let their families and friends know ASAP,” they said. “There’s no shame in contracting COVID-19, and people that have it need to be responsible and considerate of others.”

The family added that the virus had “viciously attacked [Jeremih’s] body,” subjecting him to severe symptoms that are “rare for a young man his age without underlying conditions.”

“[We are] very grateful for everyone who is praying, and we ask for continued prayers,” they said.

Fellow Chicago native Chance the Rapper also offered his own update on Instagram, urging fans and friends to keep praying for Jeremih’s recovery.

“Thank you to all the prayer warriors who used their favor to intercede on my brother Jeremy’s behalf!” he wrote.
