It’s been a few days since everyone heard the tragic news that “Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek passed away. While some people don’t think the iconic show can go on without his presence, others have a perfect person in mind for who they want to be the next host.

Fans started a petition to get LeVar Burton as the next quiz show’s host. “LeVar Burton has inspired and shaped the minds of several generations of trivia-loving nerds,” the petition, which has already garnered over 63,000 signatures read. It also listed his accomplishments, which included playing the “brainiac engineer Geordi La Forge on ‘Star Trek’” and “hosting 21 seasons of the educational ‘Reading Rainbow.’”

It continued, “This petition is to show Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. and producer Mike Richards just how much love the public has for Burton, and how much we’d all love to see him as the next host of ‘Jeopardy!’”

Burton got wind of the petition and responded to it from his official Twitter account. “Even if nothing comes from it, I can’t tell how much I appreciate all y’alls love and support!” he tweeted.

“Of course while I’m very flattered by the petition, my thoughts are definitely with Alex Trebek’s family and his millions of fans and the devastating loss of this irreplaceable legend. #LongLiveAlex,” he wrote in a follow-up tweet.

Sadly, Trebek lost his battle with cancer on Sunday (Nov. 8). Last March, he made his battle with the disease public by announcing that he had stage 4 pancreatic cancer. He started chemotherapy and continued his hosting duties at the popular show.

“Working beside him for the past year and a half as he heroically continued to host ‘Jeopardy!’ was an incredible honor,” the show’s executive producer, Mike Richards, said. “His belief in the importance of the show and his willingness to push himself to perform at the highest level was the most inspiring demonstration of courage I have ever seen.”

The remaining episodes that he filmed before his untimely death will air as scheduled through Dec. 25. Check out Burton’s tweets below.
