Lizzo has taken the stage to open the 62nd Grammy Awards and her performance was nothing short of amazing.

She opened her performance by paying tribute to the late Kobe Bryant by saying “Tonight is for Kobe.” Bryant passed away earlier today (Jan. 26) after his helicopter crashed while he was on his way to a basketball game with his daughter and several others.

The “Juice” singer looked stunning in a black embellished gown as she sang “‘Cuz I Love You,” which is a track off an album of the same name.

She then did an outfit change and performed her No. 1 hit “Truth Hurts.” She ended her performance by saying “Welcome to the Grammys bitch!”

It is a big night for Lizzo as she has already won two Grammy awards. She won for Best Traditional R&B Performance for her song “Jerome” and Best Urban Contemporary Album for ‘Cuz I Love You (Deluxe). She is nominated for a total of eight Grammy awards tonight including nominations for including Best New Artist, Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance, and Best R&B Performance.

Lizzo recently found out about her Grammy nominations as she was boarding a plane. Her manager FaceTimed her as the nominations aired. “Then I had to sit on a plane for 10 hours,” she said.

It’s been a breakout year for Lizzo as she was named Entertainer of the Year by The Associated Press and TIME magazine.

When addressing claims of making music that is “white-washed” she says, “I’m making music that hopefully makes other people feel good and helps me discover self-love. That message I want to go directly to black women, big black women, black trans women. Period,” she said.

Congratulations to Lizzo on all her accomplishments. Watch her performance below.
