It’s been a few years since Chronixx liberated his debut studio album Chronology, a Virgin EMI-backed effort that saw 16 cuts from the Jamaican star. Since then, we’ve heard some equally infectious drops from the man formerly known as Little Chronicle, including “Dela Move,” “Same Prayer” with Kabaka Pyramid, Loco Riddim, and “COOL AS THE BREEZE/FRIDAY” — all of which are presumably intended to build momentum towards Chronixx’s long-awaited sophomore LP Dela Splash.

This past weekend, Chronixx added to the heat with his new single “Safe N Sound,” a song that he co-produced alongside TeflonZincFence. The track is packed with defiant lyrics about the world needing peace, change, and more for the betterment of our communities currently under fire on so many different levels:

“…[It] could be many years of brainwashing, or the stew peas with the pig tail, it even might be these pills that they poppin, mek everybody feel like a big devil, affi face the truth an wi cyaa hide from it, affi heal wi people, it’s inevitable, cause the poison food a mek di youth brain damage, coupled with with the crap they watching on the cable…/”

Taking to social media, Chronixx also added on to the track’s subject matter by stressing how much we could accomplish by working together to take care of our own:

“Work affi gwan and food affi eat. Love to the hard working artists and scientists, teachers and students, healers and guardians. Gods beloved mothers and daughters, fathers and sons. We supply all markets…markets nuh supply we.”

Directed by Dark X and SAMO, the accompanying visual for “Safe N Sound” sees Chronixx walking through the streets, in classrooms, and different locations that have become deserted, creating a post-apocalyptic feel that matches the song’s urgency. It’s all an important message during a time where much of the world still lies in a chaotic state, thanks to COVID-19, rampant corruption, and oppression against many of our communities.
