Ever since that legendary moment at the 1995 Source Awards when Andre 3000 declared “The south got something to say, that’s all I got to say,” the south has had a tight grip around the music industry ever since. Through nearly three decades, we’ve seen first-hand the value that the southern part of America has on the beloved genre and that will not change any time soon. Besides Atlanta, some of the best artists to do it are Texas bred, specifically Houston. With this in mind, it is a beautiful thing to see Houston artists carrying the torch and since his arrival back in 2017, Don Toliver has understood the assignment. Today (Oct. 8), he drops off his sophomore album Life Of A Don.

In just a few years, Houston rapper Don Toliver has crafted one of the most distinguishable sounds in hip hop. With features from Nas (“Replace Me”), and Justin Bieber (“Don’t Go”) to Rico Nasty (“Don’t Like Me”) and Masego (“Mystery Lady”), his patented high-pitch voice is unlike all the other melodic rappers in the game, making the 27-year-old one of the most in demand acts to date. Being a mentee of fellow Houston sensation Travis Scott and signee of his Cactus Jack Records, Toliver has a promising future in this game.

Serving as the follow up to his RIAA certified Gold debut album Heaven Or Hell, Life Of A Don further showcases Don Toliver’s musical abilities as he makes a valiant effort to put his greatness on display for those who might be late to the party.

The Cactus Jack Records artist is currently living the Life of a Don on the road during his tour, which will wrap in Los Angeles on Oct. 30 at the Hollywood Palladium. He’s also slated to perform at three upcoming music festivals: Scott’s Astroworld in their Houston hometown on Nov. 5, Day N Vegas on Nov. 14 and Rolling Loud LA on Dec. 12.
