Following “Female Goat” and “Pop Out,” Lakeyah has just dropped off another visual from her latest project. The new “Hit Different” video is sure to motivate anyone who watches it as it includes old clips of a younger Lakeyah rapping and putting in her hours and hours of chasing her dream. For her hard-hitting verse, Lakeyah raps about going hard for what she’s always wanted:

Yeah, back when I was rappin’ in school. Ain’t takin’ shit serious, n***a, I was actin’ a fool. The braces and glasses image ain’t even match what I do. Ain’t have a plan, but somethin’ in me said it’s best if you move. Less than a year and I got signed, that’s a dream come true. Ain’t nobody show me love, I had to show ‘em the proof. I’m a problem, these other bitches see a wave and they ride it. Don’t compare me to all these rappers, what’s a goon to a goblin? When you want it, you go and get it ‘til you can say that you got it. Pee told me, “I see it in you, out the gate, you the hardest,” on God.

The track is taken from Lakeyah’s Time’s Up project, which was unleashed last month on Dec. 11. The 10-track body of work includes features from 42 Dugg and Inayah in addition to the City Girls. In a recent conversation, Lakeyah shared how guidance from QC head honcho Pee motivated her to keep going and also push new boundaries. “I like to switch it up. My previous manager tried to make me stick to R&B, and I didn’t want to do that. I want to show all my talents, singing and rapping,” she said. “Pee told me never to put myself in a box, and that’s just how I am. I like to both sing and rap.”
