With all of the talent that exists within Florida, it’s pretty dope when different hip hop generations from there align musically. For his latest, young gun Smokepurpp connects with veteran Rick Ross on the new single “Big Dawg,” which sees production from Diego Ave and dwells in the usual topics we’d expect to hear from both artists:

“Marble floors in my mansion, serving works to my passion, kilo appear on my taxes, strapped down, so don’t panic/

Life sentence, they happy, pockets down, head nappy, put you n***as in caskets, big Benzes on bracks/

Jealous n***as keep dyin’, knock five down at a time, shades on, peace signs, big watches on shine/

F*** n***as get petty, this loyalty you can’t pave, me and b***hes don’t pray, just less time that she take.../”

The track is said to be from the forthcoming album Florida Jit, which also boasts previously released singles “Pop S***,” “It’s Whatever,” and the Lil Pump-assisted “Off My Chest.” Florida Jit will also follow last December’s Deadstar 2, which saw 17 new tracks from the Alamo-signed artist and features from Moneybagg Yo, Lil Skies, Ty Dolla $ign, Trippie Redd, and more.

This year also saw Smokepurpp speaking openly about his drug use and its connection to mental health, a topic that’s become more popular since the tragic passings of artists like Lil Peep and Juice WRLD. He even spoke on going to rehab in an interview with HipHopDX:

“I kind of knew I wanted to go when Peep died... If I talked about drugs, then I can talk about going to rehab. I don’t want my fans going through what I’m going through. If people think it’s cool because I did that, then ya’ll got to think it’s cool to go to rehab because I did it.”

Fans can press play on “Big Dawg” below. Florida Jit makes landfall this Friday (June 19).
