Last week, NAV returned to the fold with his new single “Turks,” which features assistance from past collaborators Gunna and Travis Scott. The track sees the trio flexing about the usual street life-turned-riches subject matter over Wheezy’s booming production:

“Trappin’ on the block, I’d never serve a cop, I always kept a Glock, I ain’t ‘bout to see the grave/

Pull up, I’ll make a quick stop, I shop one stop, I’m high for seven days/

Who is that lil’ n***a icy hoppin’ out a Wraith? Chopper get it choppin’ like a blade/

You ain’t get no money but you poppin’ on your page…/”

Directed by Amir “Cash” Esmailian and Zac Facts, the collaborators are somewhere Turks and Caicos in full-on militant mode, complete with tanks, assault rifles, helicopters, women in uniform and the lot. It’s a surprising, creative take on the otherwise self-indulgent offering, complete with a cameo from Young Thug.

Currently working on his official follow-up to last year’s Bad Habits, NAV has more often than not made it clear that he wants the fame as well as the financial success that comes with his career. In a past interview with Complex, he spoke on how the paparazzi typically ignore him when he’s out in public:

“Honestly, I feel like I’m just now starting to get famous… But fame is something I want, it’s a good problem to have. I’m still not there, because when I walk out of f***ing Delilah in L.A. and TMZ will be standing out there with cameras and not even take a picture of me, I get sick. I get in my f***ing Lambo truck right in front of them. All my jewelry on and they don’t even take one picture.”

Given that he’s since made it on TMZ, it’s only a sign that he’ll soon be on everyone’s radar.
