Fresh from Griselda’s “WWCD Tour” dates, Benny The Butcher returns with a new loose cut titled “Did I,” an inspirational number that sees production from Black Metaphor and Fuse of 808 Mafia. On the track, Benny pours his heart out about the decisions he made for his loved ones, for better or for worse:

“I bought my daughters flights to Cali just to keep ‘em out the cold/

You sell dope to feed your family, they gon’ treat you like you stole/

I took voluntary trips, I was proud of every brick/

For my n***as fightin’ them cases, droppin’ commissary slips/

Remember? I hustled reckless, hundred bundles in a simple stash/

’Cause I ain’t distribute bags to live middle class/

I took a chance, had a plug on my hands/

And maybe, if you was dealt that circumstance then you would too.../”

Since the release of Tana Talk back in 2018, Benny’s been keeping the streets fed via a series of high-quality EPs, including last year’s The Plugs I Met and Statue Of Limitations, the latter having been done alongside fellow New York rapper Smoke DZA. He also joined his family Westside Gunn and Conway The Machine for Griselda’s big label debut WWCD or What Would Chine Gun Do? — as well as their show-stopping performance for Charlie Sloth’s Fire In The Booth freestyle series on Beats 1. Hopefully, the Buffalo star is now gearing up to give the fans another solo body of work for the new decade.

In the meantime, you can press play on the simple-yet-very effective visual for “Did I” below, available on all major streaming platforms. In related news, Benny The Butcher recently took to social media to reveal that a collaboration with Drake could be on the way. One can only hope that such a combo will make landfall sooner than later.
