Kota The Friend reflects on life in new track “Dragon”

The song arrives less than six months after his latest full-length effort, ‘Everything.’

Emmanuel Robert

Kota The Friend bares his vulnerable side in a touching new cut titled “Dragon.” The relaxing, guitar backtracked song hears the Brooklyn native speak on his reflections for for everything, including his family, career and friendship. On the song, he gives meaningful advice to his younger self:

“Get your momma flowers, even when she get you mad mad. And people backstab, be careful and keep a trash bag. Skip the fast pass, be knowledgeable, that’s the bag bag. Polish all your skills, set your price, then you tax that. Even if you independent no man is an island. And do not put your stock in fresh trends and diamonds. And if you treat her good she won’t think about your wallet. You could put a rock on her finger don’t make you solid”

“Dragon” arrives less than six months after his latest full-length effort, Everything. Equipped with twelve records in total, Kota joined forces with Bas, Joey Bada$$, Kyle and even his son, Lil Kota and more, who are featured guests on the project. He also kicked off 2020 with his featureless project Lyrics to Go, Vol 1.

In an interview from earlier this year, Kota the Friend opened up about the headspace he was in while recording his album:

“I was in a tough spot the whole time. Mentally, it was a struggle to make time for my son and my girl. Everybody around me was going through so much. I moved into an apartment where it was already furnished, so I was thrown into a new situation where I wasn’t able to choose what my surroundings were. Everything was happening to me. I wanted to make an album that was manifesting good things—manifesting what I want for my future.”
