Fresh off the release of his breakthrough project Pain Is Temporary earlier this year, rapper Bankrol Hayden has linked up with Lil Baby for the “Drop a Tear” visual. The Blank Square Production-directed music video portrays the harsh reality of coping with death, as it sees the two rappers dressed in all black at a funeral mourning a recent life lost. On his verse on the song, Lil Baby raps about the pain he feels after losing someone very dear to him:

“Cookin’ up them meals, make sure I eat. You know I feel for you, can’t believe them meals, they turned sour, I would’ve killed for you. Left me at lowest, I can’t even say I still love you.”

“When I was making this album, I was going through really hard times,” Hayden told Complex about what “Drop A Tear” means to him. “A family member was very ill. That experience made me realize that everyone in your life isn’t going to be around forever. I had to come to terms with that. Family means a lot to me, so much that I had to write ‘Drop a Tear.’ Making music like this helps me, my family and my fans get through hard times and come out stronger.”

Earlier this year, Lil Baby released his chart-topping 2020 project My Turn and its deluxe version, which included features from 42 Dugg, Future, Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Wayne, Moneybagg Yo, Young Thug, and Rylo Rodriguez. The project went on to go double platinum. In March, he also accomplished an impressive feat, as he locked in another Hot 100 hit and is now able to claim he has as many Hot 100 hits as the legendary Prince.
