On Thursday (March 7), fans were able to check out a new episode of "The Shop," which saw Nelly, Becky Hammon and Cedric The Entertainer as the latest guests. Early on in the conversation, Cedric was asked by co-hosts Maverick Carter and Paul Rivera about the shots that Katt Williams sent in his direction while on "Club Shay Shay.” In response, he stated how he was minding his business when folks started alerting him to the viral moment.
"I'm not an internet dude," the comedian stated. "Everybody gotta think about it. I'm truly a grown-a** man, dawg. I'm not sittin' around watching the internet, that's not what I do. People [started] calling me right away, and people don't understand [that] St. Louis people are very sincere about St. Louis folk."
Cedric also addressed the accusation that he stole one of Williams' jokes. "Comedy is definitely a space where we hear jokes, sure. But for me, that was a situation where he was claiming cultural appropriation, in my opinion. That's how I feel. Like, driving an old car, rolling down the window, that's [from the] '70s."
The Barbershop actor continued, "If I ask anybody, 'How [do] you drive your car,' that's that. You can't say my joke about a spaceship is your joke about driving a car 'cause we're doing the same gestures." Nelly then came to Cedric's defense by accusing Williams of stealing a joke from J.B. Smoove.
As REVOLT previously reported, Williams gave his side of the story to Shannon Sharpe back in January.
“He thought that I was just a no-name comedian, and that he could take this joke and nobody would know. The issue was that I had already done this particular joke on BET’s ‘ComicView’ twice,” the Friday After Next star claimed. "Cedric comes to The Comedy Store, he watches me in the audience, he comes backstage, he tells me what a great job I did and how much he loves the joke. Two years later, he’s doing that as his last joke on The [Original] Kings Of Comedy, and he’s doing it verbatim. He just changed my car into a spaceship.”
