Key Takeaways

Any teams hoping to pry A’ja Wilson away from the Las Vegas Aces can probably let that dream go. On Friday (April 3), the three-time champion made it clear she has no plans to leave as the WNBA heads into free agency on the heels of its new CBA.

“[I’m] not looking,” Wilson said during USA Basketball training camp, per The New York Post’s Madeline Kenney. “I know exactly where I am. I love Vegas. I’m not leaving Vegas.” The South Carolina native added that she’s “looking to win another one” with the team, after helping the Aces capture titles in 2022, 2023, and 2025.

She continued, “I’m looking to defend a championship that we have in Las Vegas. I’m looking to get better as a leader, as a player. Everything else just kind of falls in line.”

How does A’ja Wilson’s reported supermax contract shape her free agency decision?

Of course, a lot of basketball fans already figured she’d stay in Las Vegas, especially with reports saying she was expected to re-sign on a WNBA supermax deal worth $1.4 million. Those rumors began not long after the WNBA and WNBPA reached an agreement in principle on a new CBA, which would push the league’s max salary to $1.4 million in 2026. Last year, by comparison, the max sat at $249,244.

It also helps that Wilson has spent all eight years of her career in Las Vegas. Last season alone, she took home MVP, Finals MVP, and Defensive Player of the Year, making her one of the first players in WNBA history to do so — more than deserving of that rumored supermax.

Why A’ja Wilson could be in for another huge season with the Las Vegas Aces

Per ESPN, Wilson put up 23.4 points, 10.2 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 2.3 blocks, and 1.6 steals per game in 2025, all while shooting 50.5 percent from the field. With the 2026 WNBA season tipping off on May 8, there’s every reason to believe she could keep that momentum going, if not raise the bar even more.

espnW also reported that she and her boyfriend, Bam Adebayo, have been playing one-on-one during the offseason, which only adds to the anticipation around what kind of year she could be in for. Luckily, fans won’t have to wait much longer to see how it all translates once the season begins.
