Betty White fans have gathered around the actress’ Hollywood Walk of Fame star to celebrate her life and legacy. On Friday (Dec. 31), after the news spread of the actress’ death, her Los Angeles supporters made their way to Hollywood Boulevard and formed a group around her well-deserved monument. The star has since been flooded with flowers and stuffed animals — in honor of her love for animals and her work as an animal activist.
“She was a lovely human being and warm and humble. Gregarious, and it is a sad thing,” fan Greg Donovan told CNN while at her star. “It is a sad day in Hollywood and around the world.” An official memorial will take place later this evening.
White, a comedian and American icon, worked for over 80 years, charming fans with her acting chops and sense of humor. She passed away in her Los Angeles home weeks shy of her 100th birthday as a result of natural causes, an initial investigation revealed. Her agent Jeff Witjas confirmed that she had not been sick in the days before her death.
As some fans honor “The Golden Girls” star in L.A., others like Ellen DeGeneres have taken to social media to mourn her loss.
“What an exceptional life. I’m grateful for every second I got to spend with Betty White. Sending love to her family, friends and all of us,” she tweeted. President Joe Biden also shared a few words about the beloved actress.
“Betty White brought a smile to the lips of generations of Americans,” he penned in a tweet. “She’s a cultural icon who will be sorely missed. Jill and I are thinking of her family and all those who loved her this New Year’s Eve.”
Fortunately, White was also given her flowers in person, receiving several honors and Lifetime Achievement Awards before she passed away.
