Just before the holiday weekend arrived, Kevin Gates decided to bless his fans with another top tier freestyle. This time, it’s over the instrumental for Nardo Wick‘s breakthrough hit “Who Want Smoke?,” an Emkay-produced offering that’s perfect for Gates’ bars about street life:

“Lotta work, get distributed to my generals and lieutenants, go berserk, I’ll put you on a shirt from JCPenney, bitch I’m turnt, put your dick inside the dirt and murk the witness, I go lurk, catch a body and tell Mazi how I did it, all my hitters working lense I go purchase me a Fendi, drop that bag, want your hat you know it’s curtains when I set it, dun-dadda, kick the rash-clahh this ain’t gunfire, you know I don’t get tired, run you down your lungs tired…”

The freestyle also sees a TeamxIncome-directed clip that shows Gates and his crew outside in the nighttime, mobbing in different locations around the city. For anyone who thinks that the Baton Rouge emcee has lost his edge in any way, this video is for you.

It’s been several months since Kevin Gates dropped his latest body of work Only the Generals, Pt. II, the sequel to 2019’s Only the Generals Gon Understand. His last official LP — the 17-track I’m Him, his second — made landfall back in 2019. That now-Gold album both landed Gates within the top five of the Billboard 200 and his fourth top ten entry overall thanks to 72,000 album equivalent units sold during its first week of release. Currently, he’s said to be working on an official follow-up to I’m Him, which is presumed to be the long-awaited Khaza.

Until that arrives, you can press play on Kevin Gates‘ “Talking To My Scale” video below. Hopefully, we’ll hear more about Khaza sooner than later.
