Nicki Minaj takes pride in writing her own lyrics. She’s one of the greatest hip hop lyricists ever, but every now and then she has to remind folks. The “Good Form” rapper took to Twitter Saturday (Dec. 11) to discuss her pen game and break down her writing credits for her followers.

In response to a tweet that mentioned Nicki’s “Chun-Li” has now sold over 3,000,000 units in the US, Nik replied, “yup. ChunLi AND BarbieTingz were written by me from start to finish. i saw you guys talking about it. I could go down the list. Who wants me to?”

She then proceeded to name several songs she wrote both her raps and the hook for. “Moment4Life, DidItOnEm, BeezInTheTrap, HighSchool… Probably the whole pink Friday album,” she tweeted. “Most of all the album cuts on my albums.”

These I’m naming r singles,” she clarified. “Other ‘writers’ names’ are added for sampling, adlibs, feature, production, etc.”

Nicki could’ve also mentioned that she’s won over 40 BMI awards for her songwriting and was named Songwriter of the Year in 2013 at the BMI R&B/Hip Hop Awards. Instead, she reflected on how the songs that she’s written her own hooks and verses for “cut through more to the listener.”

“Once u get successful ppl start sending you hooks on beats they chose & I think the artistry starts getting lost,” she tweeted. “Just b/c u didn’t write the hook doesn’t always mean it don’t cut through tho. If u body the verses.”

“But listening back to the ones I wrote the hook puts me in this emotional place cuz I remember the mind frame I was in and where I was in life. #GanjaBurn,” she added.

This isn’t the first time, Nicki has defended her pen game on social media. In 2018 Nicki was featured on YG’s track “Big Bank” along with 2 Chainz and Big Sean. When a commenter on Instagram mentioned that Nicki’s verse sounded like Eminem wrote it for her, Barbie clapped back.

“Someone [really] just asked if Eminem wrote my verse,” she replied in her comments. “Thank you @YG for checking him. He deleted it with the quickness. All the real rappers in the game know & give me my props. Y’all try to take away everything from women. But just know: even when it’s no longer ‘trendy’ to write ur raps I will always write my own!!! Even if it means not being able to drop as frequent as I want to, I will never go out like that!!! I’m proud of my brain. I hold my own with all the men in this game. It’s sad y’all always try to take away my accomplishments.”
