A McDonald’s meal, a sex-positive Netflix show and a gig as the host of the 2021 MTV EMAs are proof that Saweetie has been booked and busy, but she hasn’t forgotten about her debut album. Ahead of her hosting duties at the MTV award show, the “My Type” rapper provided fans with an update on her forthcoming project, which has already seen a few delays.

“It’s dropping soon,” she said. “Honestly, it was a body of work with no soul. So right now, I’m working on the details because I really want the world to feel me.”

Saweetie’s debut project was initially slated to drop in June, but she pushed back its release to work on it some more. “Pretty Bitch Music was supposed to come out this month, but I was really living with it,” the star previously told Big Tigger. “And one of my goals is for people to really feel something with every song, so I had to go back and reconstruct some songs. Just know that I’m a perfectionist, and it’s on the way.”

The Bay Area emcee later attributed her desire to revisit the album to her encounter with Cher, who she once worked with for a campaign.

“I thought [the album] was done, but after I met her, I had an epiphany,” Saweetie explained. “This album needs to have feelings, it needs to have soul, it needs to have spirit. And I have a lot of room for improvement, so I’m gonna work on that. And once it’s done, the album will be released.”

While Saweetie plans on re-recording her first EP, she is also preparing for the release of the Bruised soundtrack, which is executive produced by Cardi B and Halle Berry. She is featured on the project alongside DreamDoll, Latto and more.
