Big Sean has provided fans with an update on the movie theater he intends to build in his hometown. On Wednesday (Nov. 10), the “Bounce Back” rapper took to Instagram to announce that construction for his arena has begun after a brief delay related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Building my 1st movie theatre in Detroit, pandemic slowed us down but it’s on the way!!!” he captioned a photo of the site. “A dream come true, what else should I put in here? Arcade? Lounge? Bowling? A[n] intimate Venue? Community Center? Let me know.”

Sean revealed his plan to build a theater in 2018 after he noticed that his native city was void of venues that played new movie releases.

“There Literally is NOT ONE MOVIE THEATRE IN THE CITY OF DETROIT THAT PLAYS NEW MOVIES, ONLY IN THE SUBURBS!!!” he penned at the time. According to the post, he made the observation while taking students to see Black Panther and decided that he would step up and make the change. “I wanted to show the city and Detroit Public Schools that a kid from DPS that’s the same color as most of them can be a[n] owner and a CEO too and open big business in uncharted territory!” he wrote. He’s since made moves that prove he’s a boss in the music industry as well.

Recently, after releasing his Hit-Boy assisted What You Expect EP, Sean revealed that the project is the first one to drop under his newly-launched record label. “By the way this the first project where I’m on my own label as well, no more lil dawg shit!!!!” he tweeted. “I bossed up! #DONLIFE.”

Big Sean’s forthcoming movie theater — a partnership with theater chain Emagine Entertainment — will reportedly be named after his legal name. It is not clear when The Sean Anderson Theatre will be open for business.
