Today (Nov. 5), 3x Grammy-nominated artist, musician, and producer Terrace Martin has released his anticipated new album Drones via Sounds of Crenshaw / BMG. Preceding the release was his “Leave Us Be” single, a groovy offering that he co-produced alongside Trevor Lawrence Jr. and Jeff Gitelman that sees him singing about living life in Los Angeles:

Early Friday, traffic on the 405, grab my cell phone, check out what’s on Live, throw my phone down, police passin’ by, L.A. living/ Homies stay on go, the hood relentless, pain is all we know, baby moms pull up trippin’, police passin’ by, just leave, just leave, just leave us be…

T Lee’s gumbo, cuzzo’s shit be fire, drinkin’, smokin’, we only get one life/ But fuck all that, police passin’ by/ Just leave, just leave, just leave us be, just leave, just leavе

Martin made sure to take some time to delve into his intentions with the new body of work. “There are touches of R&B, touches of jazz, touches of hip-hop, touches of classical, Cuban music, West African music, house music,” says Martin about the new project via press release. ”You’re going to hear all elements of Black music within this record. It’s not one element I can leave out if I call myself a true Black artist.”

Prior to the newly released Drones, Martin shared the R+R=Now Live compilation alongside R+R=NOW and Robert Glasper last year, In addition to that, he released his Village Dayes project in 2020 as well, which included appearances from Alex Isley, Rexx Life Raj, and plenty more.
