Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo has purchased a stake in the Milwaukee Brewers. On Friday (Aug. 20), the MLB team announced the news. “We are honored to have Giannis join our team of Milwaukee Brewers investors,” Mark Attanasio, Brewers’ principal owner, said in a statement. “Giannis is a great athlete, a world champion, and a true local hero with international renown.”

Antetokounmpo has become the first individual to join the team’s ownership group since the team was purchased by Attanasio in 2005. “The city of Milwaukee means so much to me,” the NBA champion said in a statement.

“I am honored to be joining the Brewers ownership group to further my commitment and dedication to this great community. I take great pride in my city and I’m excited about what we can build together.”

His new investment in the baseball team comes just a month after he led the Milwaukee Bucks to an NBA championship against the Phoenix Suns, earning the city of Milwaukee its first NBA title in 50 years. He also won the 2021 NBA Finals MVP Award. Back in December, Antetokounmpo signed a five-year $228 million contract extension with the Bucks.

Antetokounmpo isn’t the only NBA player who has a stake in an MLB team. Back in March, REVOLT reported that LeBron James and his business partner Maverick Carter became the first two Black partners for Fenway Sports Group (FSG), a Red Sox parent company.

The two men became part-owners of the Boston Red Sox, along with “other FSG subsidiaries, including NESN, Roush Fenway Racing and Fenway Sports Management,” according to The Boston Globe. James also has a stake in the English soccer team Liverpool Football Club, whose majority owner is FSG — the fourth-most valuable sports empire.

Congrats to Antetokounmpo! Check out a tweet from the Brewers below.
