It’s been a whopping 17 years since Destiny’s Child released their last album Destiny Fulfilled, and all members of the iconic R&B group have continued to thrive individually since. This is definitely the case for Michelle Williams, who has continued to create music of her own — her fourth solo LP, the gospel-leaning Journey to Freedom, made landfall back in 2014 and saw collaborations with the likes of Lecrae, Tye Tribbett, Fantasia, her sisters in song Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland, and more. Williams has also become a fixture on both the small screen and the theater stage, appearing on shows like “Strictly Come Dancing” and “The Masked Singer” and starring in musicals like Chicago and Fela!
Despite all of this, there’s one particular moment in time that she can’t seem to shake off — her infamous fall during a Destiny’s Child performance on “106 & Park” back in 2005. This unfortunate incident was once again brought up during an interview that Williams had with artist and personality Dr. Larry D. Reid, who humorously asked his guest if she’s going to “stay on her feet” in the event she returns to performing. As expected, her response was swift:
“You tried it! Didn’t I—haven’t I stayed on my feet every other… you’re gonna make me curse!”
Williams did take the comment in good nature, further speaking on what took place and how others don’t seem to put her peers on the same pedestal:
“I need people to stop saying, ‘She’s so clumsy!’ … I fell one time. That’s like, causing PTSD. That’s probably why I ain’t gon’ make music. … There is no evidence of me falling any other time. I fell one time… That happened in 2005…it probably took me 12 or 13 years to watch it … Robbie Williams has fallen, Usher has fallen, Madonna has fallen, Beyoncé has fallen, Kelly passed out. Why do y’all single me out?”
