Oakland’s very own Shock G will be honored with a posthumous celebration of his life. The rapper’s longtime manager confirmed the news during a recent interview with TMZ.

Per the outlet, fellow members of the rapper’s group Digital Underground and some of his close friends teamed up with Oakland’s City Council and a few nonprofits to plan out the special day. The tribute received approval from the emcee’s family and is set to go down on Aug. 21.

Organizers will kick off the event, taking a page from Shock’s charitable efforts. They will reportedly work alongside the emcee’s friends and family to provide meals to 2,000 homeless individuals in the community.

A motorcade will then make its way to City Hall, where fans will celebrate the legend’s life with live music and a few DJ sets.

The announcement of Shock G’s celebration of life comes nearly four months after the emcee’s sudden death. Per reports, he had been staying at a Tampa hotel room in April, but failed to check out, prompting the worried hotel manager to pay his room a visit. Upon entering his room, he was found unresponsive and pronounced dead moments later. A report from the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner’s Office revealed that Tupac’s affiliate passed away as a result of an accidental overdose of fentanyl, alcohol and methamphetamine.

Digital Underground’s Chopmaster J broke the news of Shock’s death on social media.

“34 years ago almost to the day we had a wild idea we can be a hip hop band and take on the world… Through it all, the dream became a reality and the reality became a nightmare for some,” he wrote. “… Now he’s awaken [sic] from the fame, long live Shock G Aka Humpty Hump. Rest In Peace my Brotha Greg Jacobs!!!”

The rapper’s friends and collaborators immediately flooded social media with memories and condolences to his family, who laid Shock to rest during a funeral service back in May.
