Mariah The Scientist is gearing up to drop her Ry Ry World album this Friday (July 7), and so far we’ve gotten her “2 You” single as a preview last week. Now, she returns to present Aura as a final offering before the full drop, with the accompanying visual set to arrive Friday as well. On the new “Aura” track, she shows off her pen:

I guess it’s better that it’s over now, ‘cause all the things that you lied to me about/ Was just too much for me to swallow down, now it’s takin’ over, tryna take me out/ I guess it’s better if we pretend we’re better as friends/ I’ll try my best to forget your braid up and your Chanel scent

I can’t love you if I don’t trust you, so if you fucked, I swore I’ll never touch you/ But, if it’s tough, you know I won’t discuss it/ ’Cause if you love her, I’ll just interrupt you so I can be what you need, maybe more, everything/

Back in 2020, REVOLT honored Mariah The Scientist as one of 2020’s “Women To Watch,” specifically highlighting her song “Beetlejuice.” The piece said her “sultry sounds speaking to a modern romance full of ups and downs” and “her honesty is the fuel to her artistry.” Fast forward a year later, she has continued to cement her status as an artist through her honest lyrics.

In terms of Mariah’s artistry, she analyzed in one of her only recent interviews the origin of her songwriting. “With the shit I was going through, wondering why I was feeling the way I was feeling,” she says. “I couldn’t help but try to dissect that. So it’s like: Your heart is broken, and you feel so shitty, what is responsible for that? And then it turned more sentimental, almost like storytelling.”
