This week, 6x GRAMMY-nominated recording artist BJ The Chicago Kid delivers the exciting news that he will be dropping new music and content every week for the next few weeks as a part of “BJ Wednesday’s,” where the singer will provide his fans with a musical gift to help with getting through the week. First up is his soulful rendition of The Dream’s “Fancy.” On the song, he sings The Dream’s well-loved lyrics about the lavish lifestyle:
She’s the dream of a billion men, go girl, go girl/ See she made her way from nothing, can’t fault her for wanting something/ She loves men that can afford (yea), she wants to live fancy/
Trips to Monaco, designer names from head to toe (live fancy)/ On planes that fly clean across the roaming skies (live fancy)/ Brilliant cars, spend evenings among the stars (live fancy)
This year has treated BJ The Chicago kid well, as he has solidified collaborations with names like Chika, PJ Morton and was even featured on the soundtrack for the Academy Award winning film, Judas And The Black Messiah. Most recently, BJ released a track entitled “The Chi”, which was featured on the Showtime original series, The Chi created by Lena Waithe.
When asked about why he chose this specific song to cover, BJ The Chicago Kid explains the track has the honor of landing in his top 10. “Obviously, ‘Fancy’ is one of my favorite songs from The-Dream and in my opinion, definitely one of the dopest, dare I say top 10 R&B songs to come out from our generation of music,” he says via press release. “Overall, I’m just excited to share this new era of music and of me with the world.”
