Behind most works of art are sources of inspiration. In the case of the 2004 cult classic White Chicks, the idea for the film stemmed from muses Paris and Nicky Hilton.
On Thursday (July 1), Marlon Wayans revealed that his brother and White Chicks costar, Shawn Wayans, began to think of the concept of the movie after coming across a magazine cover featuring the two sisters.
“The original ‘white chick’ and I…,” Marlon posted alongside a photo of him and Paris. “Funny story. One day, my brother @therealdjsw1 calls me at 3am saying, ‘Marlon, we should play white chicks’… I replied, ‘Nigga, you high?’
“The next day, he showed me a magazine with @parishilton and her sister on the cover and said we should play gurls like this. I immediately got it.”
According to Marlon, Paris and Nicky “were so big” at the time, especially in the world of pop culture. “We did that film in good spirit to celebrate a special time in all of our lives,” he added. “So thank you Paris and Nikki for being muses. Love ya. When we do #whitechicks2, ‘Let’s go shopping.’”
Marlon’s post comes days after he celebrated the 17th anniversary of the movie, which came out on June 23, 2004. “Happy 17 bday White Chicks. A classic…I know…part 2?” he teased the sequel — something he’s long desired to put together.
“People always say, ‘Could you do a White Chicks 2 now?’ I think definitely,” Marlon previously told PEOPLE. “A good joke is when you can make the people you’re parodying laugh. Who loves White Chicks the most? White chicks. In this environment, in this climate, we all need something to laugh at about ourselves.”
Bringing the film to fruition, he explained, “depends on a lot of different factors,” and he and Shawn have yet to land a deal.
The original movie sees Shawn and Marlon — undercover FBI agents — mess up a drug bust and later pose as two well-known socialites in an attempt to bait a kidnapper who they believe is responsible for a number of kidnappings in the area.
