When praising multi-talented artists who are pushing boundaries, South African singer-producer Th&o. must be in the conversation. Today (June 2), Johannesburg-based talent premieres his brand new short film style music video for “Ebusku,” which you can now view in full down below.

The Aadil Dhalech-directed video opens up with a dark, ominous tone visually lingering across the screen, although the groovy beat playing along with it contrasts to bring an irresistibly head-bobbing worthy feel as the smooth lyrics begin to play. Th&o. then continues his journey deeper down the mysterious path as he comes across an intriguing set-up. The tempo increases along with the viewer’s curiosity as the story of “Ebusuku” continues to unfold.

Th&o. refers to his unique sound as ”Afrotronic,” which encapsulates both alternative and electronica with elements of indie and funk. More recently, Th&o. has been gaining traction in the States and has caught the attention and praise of influencers and legends in the music world like The Joe Budden Podcast and Jermaine Dupri. Th&o. was also featured on the recent Coming 2 America soundtrack.

Aside from carving his own lane with his one-of-a-kind sound, he also makes sure to put intention behind his concepts. The “Ebusuku” title, which is also the title of his 2020 debut LP, derives from a Zulu phrase that means “night time.” In a previous conversation, Th&o. made sure to further explain his reasoning behind his deeply conceptual title. ‘‘I named it Ebusuku because I only worked on it at night – from 9pm to 4am in the morning everyday,” he says. “The idea was to capture how listening to music at night (or in the dark) is a very different feeling, so I started going for a nocturnal feeling.”
