An active duty U.S. Marine Corps major was arrested and charged for assaulting a federal officer during the Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol breach.

According to the United States Department of Justice, Major Christopher Warnagiris, who is stationed at the Marine Corps Base in Quantico, was detained on Thursday (May 13) in Virginia. He has been charged with several crimes relating to the deadly riot, including assaulting, resisting or impeding certain officers; obstruction of law enforcement during civil disorder and obstruction of justice.

On Jan. 6, security camera footage caught Warnagiris violently entering the Capitol building after pushing through a line of police officers who were guarding the East Rotunda doors.

Warnagiris placed himself in the corner of the doorway and used his body to keep the door ajar while pulling others inside. When a U.S. Capitol Police officer tried to close the doors, Warnagiris continued to push them open and even pushed the officer.

The rioter will make his first court appearance on Thursday (May 13) at 2:00 p.m.

In the first 120 days following the insurrection, the FBI has arrested nearly 440 men and women on charges related to the riots. Over 100 of those individuals have been charged with impeding or assaulting law enforcement.

Last week, REVOLT reported that a member of the Wisconsin National Guard was apprehended for his involvement in the Capitol breach. Abram Markofski reportedly traveled to Washington D.C. with a friend to attend Donald Trump’s protest against the certification of the 2020 Presidential Election results.

After the rally ended, authorities say Markofski and Brandon Nelson walked to the U.S. Capitol and spent 40 minutes inside the building. He was charged with entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds; disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds; violent entry or disorderly conduct; and parading, demonstrating or picketing in a Capitol building.
