Lil Wayne is one of the rappers whose lyricism and wordplay has wowed fans and music lovers over the years. After a recent interview, it turns out he’s just amazed by his lyrics as everyone else is.

Weezy sat down with Fox Sports’ Darnell Smith for a chat about sports and music. In the unreleased conversation, Smith recited a few of Wayne’s popular bars. A clip shows as he raps a few lyrics from the “Lollipop (Remix)” featuring Kanye West.

“Safe sex is great sex/Better wear a latex/‘Cause you don’t want that late text/That ‘I think I’m late’ text,” Smith raps, to which Wayne reacts, “I said that?!”

“I’mma dog! I didn’t know when I said that or why I said that, but I said it…,” Wayne adds before providing a reasonable justification for his failure to remember his own line. “I don’t write, man,” he explains.

Over the course of his rap career, Wayne has released 13 studio albums, five EPs and a whole lot of mixtapes. The reminder of his lyrical prowess comes months after he briefly questioned his absence from recent Grammy nominations.

“As an artist, when I see da Grammys coming up & I’m not involved nor invited, I wonder, ‘Is it me, my musik or just another technicality?’ I look around w respect & wonder competitively am I not worthy?!” Weezy tweeted back in December. “Then, I look around & see 5 Grammys looking back at me & I go to the studio.”

After the award show aired last month, however, he seemed to sing a different tune, tweeting a simple and concise message to the Recording Academy: “Fuk the Grammys.”
