Last month, the official soundtrack for Judas and the Black Messiah surfaced, revealing contributions from names like Nas, Lil Durk, G Herbo, Rakim, H.E.R., and many more. H.E.R. has just shared the official music video for her cut from the compilation, the powerful “Fight For You” track. On the song, the songstress details the importance of freedom:
All the smoke in the air, feel the hate when they stare/ All the pain that we bear, oh, you better beware/ Their guns don’t play fair, all we got is a prayer, it was all in their plans/ Wash the blood from your hands/ freedom for my brothers, freedom ‘cause they judge us, freedom from the others/ Freedom from the leaders, they keepin’ us, freedom gon’ keep us strong, freedom if you just hold on/ Freedom ain’t free at all, oh no
The song was written for the aforementioned Judas and the Black Messiah, Shaka King’s film biography of Black Panther Party leader Fred Hampton (Daniel Kaluuya) and the FBI informant (LaKeith Stanfield) who contributed to his assassination.
H.E.R. recently shared her singles “Hold On” and “Damage,” the latter track which she also performed on SNL the same night. H.E.R.’s last full-length project was 2019’s I Used To Know Her. The 19-track compilation included features from DJ Scratch, YBN Cordae, and Bryson Tiller. In 2020, she shared a handful of singles including “Do To Me,” “Wrong Places” from Songland,“Slide” and its remix featuring A Boogie, Chris Brown, and the late Pop Smoke, and “Comfortable.” She also provided assists on Skip Marley’s “Slow Down” and Lonr.’s “Make The Most.”
