Last November was quite an eventual one for Jeezy. That month, he shocked hip hop by going up against former foe Gucci Mane in an episode of Swizz Beatz and Timbaland’s “Verzuz” series, which — to say the least — wasn’t without its edgier moments. Presumably looking to feed off of that momentum, he then unveiled his twelfth studio album The Recession 2, which served as the official sequel to 2008’s The Recession and saw collaborations with the likes of Yo Gotti, E-40, Ne-Yo, and Rick Ross over 15 tracks.

In the same year, he also reunited with Shawty Redd for the quick-strike EP Twenty/20 Pyrex Vision, which immediately had fans reminiscing of past classics like “Bottom Of The Map,” “Trap Or Die,” “J.E.E.Z.Y,” and “Who Dat,” among many others. Fast forward to this year, and Shawty Redd has taken to social media to add to past efforts with “Back II The Basics,” which sounds like the long-standing duo are doing just that:

“Here come the greatest and the latest, so I had to switch the cadence, residential liquidated, fuck the odds, bitch we made it…/”

In a past interview with REVOLT, Jeezy spoke on being a pillar of the trap genre and culture, and how he is actively working to expand the meaning behind the term:

“I want to change the narrative. I don’t want people to just be like, ‘Yo, we from the trap.’ That’s cool, we were that. But, we’re evolving now. We can take what we learned from the trap and take it to the world — in the business world or whatever it is that you want to do.”

Fans can press play on “Back II The Basics” below. Hopefully, this all means that some new music — and a new project, perhaps — from Jeezy and Shawty Redd is on the way.
