After a three-decade career in the music industry, Jermaine Dupri is still elated when his work and contributions to hip hop are recognized, specifically by artists of the younger generation. On Friday (Feb. 26), after learning his name was the title of a new Curren$y song, the Grammy-nominated producer took to Twitter to react to the news.

“I ain’t gone front and act 2 cool for school, this is [mindblowing] on so many levels, the fact that I inspired someone to title a song after me, a kid from Collipark, is CRAZY!!” he wrote. “Then, to know the Black artist I grew up studying and watching never got this type [of] love until they were gone, man!!!”

Curren$y’s song sees the New Orleans emcee paying homage to Dupri, whose success served as motivation for his own career.

“As a teen I watched ‘MTV Cribs,’ Jermaine Dupri had the Continental T in the garage,” he’s heard rapping. “And said, ‘you ain’t a big dog unless you got one of these,’ yeah / And now I’m driving precision because now I’m that nigga.”

Considering the role Dupri played in Curren$y’s music career, it’s not surprising he was just as excited to discover the SoSo Def CEO knew about his song. “Mind Blown…my fuckin mind is blown man…I love today so much… 2/26 Collection Agency!!!!” he tweeted in response to Dupri’s post.

“This man Jermaine Dupri posted about my album on insta saying he was honored I named a track after him…,” Curren$y added in a follow-up tweet. “It’s 5am and I’m [i]n a hotel so I did a silent scream off the balcony, and now I’m finna roast a fatty… jam wit me y’all!!”

“Jermaine Dupri,” the track that honors the Atlanta executive, is one of 10 records on Curren$y’s eleventh studio album, Collection Agency.
