Donald Glover a.k.a. Childish Gambino has won over global audiences with his portrayal of ‘Lando” in Disney’s Star Wars franchise. Now the actor-rapper is teaming up with actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge to turn an early-2000s blockbuster film into a fresh series.

On Friday (Feb. 12), both Glover and Waller-Bridge hit up their Instagram Stories to announce that they will star in a reboot of Mr. & Mrs. Smith. The rapper begins the video by attempting to dance to 24kGoldn’s “Mood.” Then it cuts to the “Fleabag” actress’ video, in which she goes from her bed to her doorway as if she’s going to attempt the #SilhouetteChallenge.

It’s not Glover and Waller-Bridge’s first time working together. They first teamed up in the 2018 Star Wars spinoff Solo: A Star Wars Story. While Glover plays ‘Lando,’ Waller-Bridge portrays ‘BB-8’ the orange-and-white droid. Individually, both actors have worked with Amazon on separate projects like Guava Island and “Fleabag.” Jennifer Salke, the head of Amazon Studios, also posted about the news.

“Talk about the dream team!” Salke said in a statement according to Variety. “Donald and Phoebe are two of the most talented creators and performers in the world. It’s truly a dream for us, as it will be for our global audience, to have these two forces of nature collaborating as a powerhouse creative team. ‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith’ is an iconic property, and we can’t wait to see how Donald, Phoebe, and Francesca make it their own. We’re thrilled to be working with them, and with such great partners at New Regency.”

For the unfamiliar, the 2005 action film Mr. & Mrs. Smith stars Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. The movie directed by Doug Liman follows a married couple, who lead double lives as secret agents. Amazon’s upcoming series is expected to premiere in 2022.
