Issa Rae’s “Insecure” is nearing its end, but fans will have another one of her comedy series to look forward to. According to Deadline, the actress has been working on eight episodes of “Rap Shit,” a HBO Max series based on the lives of two high school friends in Miami who decide to venture into the rap game.

Since the story line is similar to the lives of the City Girls, JT, Yung Miami and Quality Control managers Kevin “Coach K” Lee and Pierre “P” Thomas will serve as co-executive producers of the show alongside Sara Rastogi. Rae will write the pilot and executive produce the series. Dave Becky and Jonathan Berry of 3 Arts Entertainment, showrunner Syreeta Singleton and Montrel McKay — who previously worked on “A Black Lady Sketch Show” — are also executive producers.

The series will be released under Rae’s Hoorae productions; her audio content company Raedio will handle the music for the series. Casting for “Rap Shit” is ongoing, and production is expected to start this summer.

The announcement of Rae’s new series comes after she announced that season five of “Insecure” — which she executive produces with Prentice Penny — will be the show’s final season.

“Prentice and I are so grateful that HBO believed in our show from the beginning and kept faith in us to see our vision through the end,” she previously told Deadline. “We always planned to tell this story through five seasons, but we couldn’t have made it this far without the tremendous support of our audience. I feel blessed beyond measure to bring our characters’ stories to an end, on-screen at least.”

Aside from “Rap Shit,” Rae may potentially work with Jazmine Sullivan on a short film for her latest project Heaux Tales. Following the release of the EP, the singer pitched the idea to her fans. “What I would love is if me and @IssaRae did a heauxtales short film, and I’d add a few extra songs. But I could just be dreaming. Nvm me.. I’m crazy,” she tweeted, to which the Little star replied, “Jazmine. Say the fuck less.”
