Trump launches Office of the Former President to continue pushing his “agenda”

The Office’s purpose will be to oversee Trump’s post-presidential “advocacy, organizing and public activism.”

Despite being removed from office earlier this month, Donald Trump will continue to try and push his administration’s “agenda” on the American people. On Monday (Jan. 25), Trump announced the official launch of his “Office of the Former President,” which will operate out of Palm Beach, Florida. According to a press release, the purpose of the organization will be to oversee Trump’s post-presidential “activism.”

“Today, the 45th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, formally opened the Office of the Former President,” the statement began.

“The Office will be responsible for managing President Trump’s correspondence, public statements, appearances and official activities to advance the interests of the United States and to carry on the agenda of the Trump administration through advocacy, organizing and public activism.”

The statement added, “President Trump will always and forever be a champion for the American people.”

Trump and his wife Melania departed from Washington, D.C. to Florida hours before Joe Biden was sworn in as president on Wednesday (Jan. 20). The former POTUS and FLOTUS chose not to welcome Biden and his First Lady Dr. Jill Biden into office and instead skipped the inauguration all together.

The new announcement marks a rare statement from Trump, whose communication with the public was considerably decreased after Twitter banned him from the platform. The social media company made the decision to block Trump’s account after his supporters attacked the Capitol, writing, “We have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence.”

Trump is expected to be tried in the Senate next month after he was impeached by the House of Representatives for inciting the deadly insurrection. The Senate received the House’s articles of impeachment against Trump on Monday and will reportedly begin trial proceedings on Feb. 8.
