Back in November, KIRBY unveiled a new single with D Smoke titled “Superpower.” Now the duo has returned with an accompanying visual in hand with a meaningful message. In the video, the two artists attend an outdoor funeral, laying the visual with somber yet powerful tones as D Smoke delivers his verse:

They say, “How we’d get so fly without the wings?” Baby, childs can see the light in darker things. Wait, wait, now they see our magic. Proudly we imagine days. When they can’t frown upon our fabric, bob and weave./ Been dodging thieves and stolen culture. I believe in poaching vultures. I believe in open ocean trips. No ship, I’ll backstroke from one coast to coast, like Aquaman./ Got mind control over the lava lamp. That’s why my pen leaves fire. I’ll retire when my father can. Look up in the sky and see me cloud sitting.

As the video comes to an end, a dedication flashes across the screen. “This video is dedicated to the Foxx Family and anyone who’s lost a loved one to gun violence,” the text reads. KIRBY’s last project was 2020’s Sis., a seven-track body of work containing no features. She also linked up with fellow R&B talent Pink Sweat$ for the remix of her track “Apple.”

D Smoke, as he released his official debut LP Black Habits, which saw 16 tracks and additional appearances from Jill Scott, Snoop Dogg, Ari Lennox, blood brothers SiR and Davion Farris, and more. Since then (and in addition to “It’s Ok”), he’s been releasing loose singles for the masses like “Rapture” and “Let Go.” D Smoke could also be found contributing to some equally dope cuts by Nwigwe, Rapsody, KIRBY, Jac Ross, and TeaMarrr.
