Wat ah gwan? On Thursday (Jan. 21) night, Keyshia Cole and Ashanti’s highly anticipated Verzuz was supposed to start at exactly 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. on the dot. However, hundreds of thousands of fans — almost a million exactly — tuned into the IG Live battle and waited for over an hour before it officially started. And to say that fans across social media were not happy about this would be a huge understatement.

The wait was so disheartening that many wondered if the battle was going to be rescheduled for a fourth time. Ashanti would come out onto the screen and have her DJ play a few tracks to “warm up” the viral audience who was growing impatient, as she listened to the music and shared short stories while waiting for Cole. But, that wasn’t enough.

“Ashanti looks like every woman waiting on her late best friend at the brunch spot,” one Twitter user named @yourdadsfav40 said. Another added, “Ashanti bout to run out of songs by the time Keyshia pulls up.”

At the beginning of the year, Ashanti shared that she was 100% recovered from COVID-19. Her diagnosis is what caused her to cancel the battle the first time. “Starting off the new year amazing and COVID free!!!” she wrote on Instagram Jan. 2. “Got my negative results back [two] days ago!

“Feeling grateful,” she added. “My parents and I got our negative results back right in time to start off the New Year healthy, happy & loved.”

Fans have been waiting for this moment for so long. “If Keyshia Cole performs ‘Heaven Sent’ on that Verzuz battle, Ashanti might as well walk off stage,” one fan tweeted earlier today.

Ashanti got better hits then [sic] Keyshia Cole being honest,” wrote another.

Luckily, the IG Live battle did start and as soon as it did, fans watching almost immediately got all the feels. Who do you think will win tonight?
